Connection through Storytelling - Teambuilding/Retreats

Empower Growth
Welcome to Brightday Connect. Our Workshops around Storytelling have been conceived to help companies and their employees find a sense of unity and cohesion within the group. Whether to ease conflict or unite a new team, or simply get a team to let go, have fun and connect on a deeper level, the Workshops offer a unique and memorable experience to all participants.

WORKSHOP/RETREAT
AIM OF THE SESSION:
The Needs:

A Happy Team
A Productive Team
A Cohesive Team
A HAPPY TEAM: a happy team requires a space where everyone feels heard, valued, and recognized. In this space, each person is an individual, complete with stories, needs, and dreams. With different and sometimes conflicting personalities the recognition of each is sometimes hard to achieve. Storytelling is an excellent answer to this problem in two major ways: first, by sharing some of their stories, the participants will be seen by the group in not only their workplace persona but as their "other life" persona. By discovering this "other side" of a person, the participants will be able to connect with them on a more human level. Secondly, once heard and valued each can contribute in a meaningful way to the story moving forward, that is the story of the company. It is with this sense of recognition and responsibility that the individual feels purpose and happiness within the group.

A PRODUCTIVE TEAM: a productive team is one that sets out goals together, analyzes obstacles, and gets together to achieve whatever their goal is. A productive team is not passive, it is active. Actors are very aware of this. Indeed, when presented with a text, the Actor can take the passive approach and just rely on the text and words of the author. On the other hand, an active Actor takes action. He does not simply say words but asks himself: "Why am I saying that? What is the journey of the character? What are the obstacles and the aim? What can I do to make this text and character alive? In that sense, a productive team will need to be active in order to achieve what needs to be achieved. Each one has a responsibility and a role to take in order for the team to work and be efficient. With an exercise called the "Neutral Scene", the participant will be able to draw a parallel between what they've learned and how the team needs to function in order to achieve their aims.

A COHESIVE TEAM: cohesion happens when a team remains united while working to achieve a common goal. Groups can be problematic because of the mix of personalities and needs. But groups all have the potential to work and function with the right guidance and awareness. Some exercises of the Workshop pinpoint the problems in the group and propose solutions in order to bring cohesion and unity.
After a warm-up (body/voice), we will begin our session. When everyone is comfortable (ice-breaking, games, etc..) we will begin our session of storytelling. Those exercises are conceived to look at all aspects of a group. By sharing their own stories, participants will connect, and add to the dynamic of the whole group. How to move that story forward will become clear. A group with a sense of unity is a group filled with individual stories that will mix together to make another story: the story of a company with each one having a part in it.
The Workshops are tailored to the needs of the group. Whether to ease conflict through storytelling or create unity within a new group, or simply for a group to have fun, laugh, and connect on a deeper level, the Workshops are created to be a memorable experience for all participants.

"Catherine has been extremely professional and attentive: she managed to make us work together despite differences in culture and personality. That also reflected on my sales job as I was better at connecting with colleagues and clients alike."

"Coming to your classes has been the highlight of my weeks these past months...thank you for your commitment and generosity in allowing us to bring the best of all of us. "
THE POWER OF STORYTELLING
Instant connection

Everyone has a story. But often our stories are not told, lost in the ever-moving, buzzing and often noisy busy life. Work, stress, ambition, and goals - work, sleep, work sleep…it is easy to forget who we are as human being and what our story is - what makes us connect and relate to each other. Because behind every social being, every public persona developed over the years in order to survive and thrive, there is an individual tale - there are emotions, people, faces, relationships and smells. All these individual stories are somehow relatable because of their universality - the universality of emotions and experiences. A smell from someone's grandmother’s cooking might remind somebody else of the smell of his own grandmother or the feel of her skin. Revisiting memories - our childhood bedroom, a moment when we felt love, an image that brings us joy - is powerful and makes us connect to each other in their universality in a very strong and powerful way.
A cohesive group, one that works well together, is happier and more efficient. These groups are made of people, each with their individual stories. But what they do not realize is that they are connected in so many ways because of those actual stories. Finding common memories bring people together.
In this workshop, the participants will connect on a deeper level and will create a common story. Knowing everyone on that deeper level will make them work better as a group and be more efficient in the workplace.

Bio

Catherine has more than twenty years of experience working as an actress. After gaining a Masters in teaching Acting at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, she worked at the top Drama schools in and around London. Her interest took another turn when she started teaching Drama to non-professionals and began to work with people from different walks of life. Doctors, bankers, and salespeople - all came to take her classes for a reason - to gain confidence, connect and improve their personal and professional lives. Her practice became more in tune with this need and, in turn, made her aware of the impact some of the exercises she created had on people and how hugely beneficial they can be if rightly done.
She proposes Workshops around Storytelling that will bring people together and create unity in a group.
